Bio
Currently, I'm a web developer and designer that creates applications in Java, Python, and Ruby. In addition to full-time development for a company, I am also a volunteer developer with commit rights on Peer 2 Peer University. I've been using Linux for years and Ubuntu for a more than a few cycles.
One of the things I love most about Ubuntu is its community. I firmly believe in creating as welcoming an environment as possible for a diverse open source community and do what I can to help foster that. I was one of the nominees for council of the Beginners Team, currently leader of the Virginia LoCo, have held sessions for a few Ubuntu OpenWeeks, and was interviewed in Full Circle Magazine.
I have had leadership roles on and offline such as various levels of leadership in Toastmasters, editor-in-chief of a college literary magazine, managing editor of an an international computer student magazine, lead developer on a few projects at work, and more.
Future Goals for team
- Publicity: Getting the word out about the team and team members' accomplishments, and collaborating/helping other groups be more welcoming.
- Mentoring: Help find ways to increase the team and team members' accomplishments by improving the mentorship program.

I've met Jessica a couple of times during her trips to California and have always been struck by her skill and dedication to projects she's working with. Her leadership skills are unquestionable and I highly value her professional expertise and the perspective she brings to the Ubuntu community and the Ubuntu Women project. -- lyz 2011-08-03 00:16:29
Jessica is incredibly supportive and very motivating! She has helped encourage me on many projects and endeavors. I think that she has a lot to offer the UW team, and would be a great addition to the leadership. -- cheri703 2011-08-06 02:58:40
I've yet to met Jessica, but my interaction with her on IRC for locoteams has lead me to believe she is active in the community, and she has lead her team back into activity. I think her skills as leader and someone who will help UW continue forward would be very valuable to the UW team. - czajkowski 2012-05-17 13:46:21
